The New-Construction Buyer Checklist

Before you sign
- Confirm lot dimensions, easements and drainage
- Get the option pricing in writing, including design-center estimates
- Understand the escalation, delay and cancellation language
- Compare builder financing incentives against outside lenders
During the build
- Pre-drywall walkthrough with photos of every wall
- Confirm any change orders in writing before work starts
- Track the schedule against your lease or sale timeline
At the final walkthrough
- Punch-list every surface with painter's tape
- Test every outlet, fixture, appliance and hose bib
- Get warranty contacts and service process in writing
